As you take a step back and analyse your business at the end of every quarter, you may notice that your loyalty scheme isn’t performing at the standard you expected or planned for. This could be for a number of reasons, from marketing to footfall patterns at that moment in time – or, it could be that the loyalty platform you’re using just isn’t up to standard anymore.

If you find that you’re not happy with the performance of your loyalty platform, you may choose to make the jump and invest in a system that’s better for your needs. To do so, you must be prepared to migrate your existing information – such as customer lists, customer points, and data – to a brand new system.

This can be daunting, but there are steps you can take to ensure the migration from your old loyalty system to your new one is entirely seamless for both your business and your customers.

Preparing and migrating customer data

Your consumer’s data is the most important thing to prepare and preserve. This information is crucial when it comes to planning and refining your business’s future, so you don’t want to lose it.

Most loyalty card systems allow you to filter your customer database by a number of metrics to create a report, which you can then export. When migrating to a new loyalty rewards management system, it’s best to export all data from your old system as a .CSV file. It will contain a list of account information such as customer email addresses and how many points they have currently earned.

You should keep the spreadsheet as a backup, in case of any issues with the process, but it will be formatted correctly to be easily imported to your new loyalty system app. By the time the data has transferred, your customers will have an account set up on your new system with all their old information still intact, and you will have saved time by not having to manually input each customer’s details.

Making changes to your system

As you migrate to your new system, you may decide that now is the time to make some changes. Having a new system can be a huge structural change for your business, so it may not be best to undertake an entire overhaul, but it’s the perfect time for small tweaks.

It’s likely that before you migrated, you identified some pain points, so consider how you could change those. Are your customers not redeeming their points or don’t seem to be trying to earn points as quickly as you’d expect? That may be due to the fact your rewards either aren’t attainable, or are just underwhelming.

When you migrate to a new customer loyalty scheme, it may be time to change the rewards that can be achieved. These changes don’t need to be permanent, so don’t be afraid to change it back if you feel it’s not working. Any changes or improvements will be better for both your business and your customers’ experience with you.

Communicating with customers

Migrating to your new loyalty scheme gives you the perfect opportunity to communicate with your customers. Send them an email letting them know of the new changes and where they can pick up their new cards. It’s also helpful to let them know how to use your new loyalty scheme, for example by downloading any new apps, so they’re prepared for the next time they visit your business.

You can use this email to monitor the reaction it receives from customers and base any further marketing off the back of it.

Marketing on mobile

It’s also a good idea to allow your customers to earn something from your email update. Why not offer an amount of points if they claim their new card within a certain amount of time? It will encourage footfall into your shop, but also will help with interaction with your business communications.
